Great Smoky Mountains National Park is mostly popular for its scenery. October is the busier time of the year to visit GSM, the fall colors are pretty spectacular. We caught the tail end of the leaves changing colors. We were unhappy to discover snow at higher elevations, time for us to head south. Most high elevation roads close in the Park Dec 1st as they cannot keep up with plowing the roads.

I will regret the shorts later

Trees at lower elevations still have nice fall colors.

We visited Clingmans Dome today, which is a man made structure on the highest peak in the park. You have a 360 degree view of the park. It was unbelievable, but cold, the walkway was icy, and any shaded areas were covered in snow.
