We have a confession to make: We have not been honest with you all recently. After leaving Avery Island, Louisiana, we did commence a long drive, although it was not the 2,800 kms to Las Vegas. It was 4,400 kms to Vancouver. The opportunity to surprise our family for Christmas was too great to pass up. So other than a one day stop in Colorado, nightly Walmart visits to sleep and Diesel we essentially drove non stop.
Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Idaho, Oregon, Washington and finally British Columbia!!
This is what we saw:
Somewhere in Texas.
Somewhere near Texas or Oklahoma
So far to go…….
It is Freezing cold.
Snowplows are out in force
Everything in Kansas was frozen, including the car. the front was covered in ice. The highway was in good condition, but side roads were extremely slippery.
Time to sleep and its going to be a cold night. We only have heat if we are plugged in. Unfortunately Walmart does not provide plug ins
Good Morning! Yes it was very cold. We had to pull out the Wool blankets
I don’t think we are in Kansas anymore.
Quiz: Does anyone know what Golden, Colorado is famous for. Remember those TV commercials?
Coors Beer of course!! Made here for over 100 years
Where it all starts.
Our first free Beer. Coors says this is the freshest Coors you can get anywhere. We are right next to the bottling line.
Rail lines running thru the factory
Free beer for Coors employees in the lunch room (after work)
So much beer passing right in front of us
So sad, so much beer flying past
The employees at Coors were amazing, they saw I was getting emotional and immediately gave us free Beer!
I am starting to feel better
Time to hit downtown Golden for more Coors Beer. (no more free beer)
Colorado Native is a Coors Beer only available in Colorado. Pretty tasty
Rocky Mountain Oysters. Way to go Aya.
Yes this is our Shower set up in the Walmart parking lot in Denver, Colorado in Mid December. The water froze in the parking lot before making it to the drain.
Tyler was able to visited a Beer Factory, so next stop A Tea Factory for Aya. Celestial Seasonings Tea in Boulder, CO. Sorry they have fancy equipment inside and do not allow photographs. But to put it into perspective, everything is robotic and automated. It was very cool to see the assembly line in action. And of course the smells were amazing. The smell in the peppermint room was so powerful, your eyes burned.
just waiting for the tour to start.
The factory is a food safety zone, so hair nets required, and beard nets for the lucky few who have facial hair. Don’t worry I didn’t drop any hair in your tea.
Back on the road, we passed a Legal Marijuana Store. Anyone can walk in for some weed, no prescription required in Colorado. (we didn’t stop)
What are those Mountains?
Town of Estes Park, Co, gateway to the Rocky Mountains
As you can see, it is very warm here
Wait, they make Budweiser in Colorado as well? Well we should stop and investigate
This is some sort of disgusting trick.
Nice Christmas Tree at Budweiser
We had 30 minutes to burn until the next tour with nothing to do except drink beer- well we made good use of the time I guess.
Budweiser Clydesdale. These horses are massive
This machine can fill and seal 33 cans per SECOND!. It was amazing to see it in action.
So much beer
Even More Beer after the tour!!
We did not need any more Snow.
Wyoming: Home of extreme wind and blowing snow.
Somewhere in Wyoming
It was so windy, We had to reduce speed.
We are getting close to Utah, the landscape is changing
Thank you Idaho for washing all of the dirt and salt of the car from Kansas, Colorado and Wyoming. Nothing but extreme rain across the entire state.
ohhh and fog
One of out first Walmart’s at the start of our trip is also our last. Mountain Home, Idaho.
not sure who thought of this name.
Across that Bridge is Washington State!
In our constant search for the cheapest Diesel, Bellingham Washington is the winner. (Gas is cheaper down south, but Bellingham has the cheapest Diesel)
They let us back into Canada!!!
Not bad covering as much ground as we did in 4 days.
