We are at the 6 month mark of our travels. I originally typed the half way point, but had to quickly delete that as travelling never ends, it is just interrupted by work from time to time. Work is simply a way to finance the next trip. Remember that comment the next time you are tired of working. What are you working for? To make a mortgage payment? a car payment? or to fulfill your dreams and explore.
We are tentatively planning on departing April 8th, heading to warmer lands in the south. We have Alcatraz tickets booked for April 15th. We hate reservations with a passion, but sometimes you have to make them, or you risk missing out. Our rough plan goes something like this:
Vancouver, B.C. – Crater Lake, OR – Napa Valley, CA – San Francisco, CA – Palm Springs, CA – Joshua Tree National Park, CA – Las Vegas, NV – Arches National Park, UT – Canyonlands National Park, UT – Badlands National Park, SD.
For those of you keeping track, we missed California on our first foray into the United States. Southern California is very warm in April compared to northern points, so that propels it to the top of our list. Our sandal tans are starting to fade, so we need some sun.
If anyone has any suggestions for places to see or taste, please leave them in the comments at the end of this post!!
This is all very rough, the beauty of having loose plans, is that you can change them at a moments notice. Did we mention we don’t like reservations?
Keep this is mind the next time you travel somewhere:
The traveler sees what he sees, the tourist sees what he has come to see. -G.K. Chesterton
The saddest journey in the world is the one that follows a precise itinerary. Then you’re not a traveler. You’re a tourist. -Guillermo del Toro
As our posts have been infrequent these last few weeks, we put together a quick collection of our favorite photos from the past 6 months. Enjoy!
