We have had a few chuckles during our first few days in Saskatchewan. The two of us having grown up in Vancouver and Tokyo, it is somewhat of a culture shock. City goes to the Country!

We had our first laugh while technically still in North Dakota- the Border Crossing. The sprawling complex on the left is the United States Border Station, the building is so large and complex, it is difficult to describe it- so have a look at the photo. And Technically it is two buildings as they have a detached garage which I imagine they could inspect larger vehicles inside.

If you are able to squint and see the tiny little building on the right, that is the Canadian Station. It appeared to be a one man operation, but there were some mobile homes across the street with a Border Services truck in the driveway, so perhaps reinforcements were nearby.

We did beat the Americans with the size of our Sign at least!  It is nice to be back in Canada.

Farmer’s burning their fields. You could see the smoke a long way away!

Our main purpose for visiting Saskatoon (and bypassing the ever so interesting communities of Regina and Moose Jaw) was to visit with Friends. We are very thankful of being able to use a portion of their driveway, and their hospitality. We were also able to wash the trailer, get the oil changed on the car and indoor showers!

And that brings us to Lunch. Being a few provinces away from an Ocean, we wondered what Saskatoon Sushi would taste like.

So they also have a Chinese Buffet, we settled on Sushi for the most part

although the fish selection was limited, they made do with what limited ingredients are available in Saskatchewan.

and Banana Tempura with Chocolate sauce was just weird

So was the Mysterious White Tuna that we have never heard of before.

We all know the best thing about a Buffet is the included Desert. Because, who actually pays extra for desert in a Restaurant.

Next stop we really wanted to see downtown Saskatoon!

Although we may have a chuckle at how they do some things in Saskatchewan (or don’t do things), or how small some things are, or how bad the roads are- if there is one thing we have learned while travelling it is this : Every place has its own beauty.

To be able to drive for 15 minutes and be in a park, where no man made sights are seen or heard is the beauty here. That is right, all we could hear were insects buzzing around and birds chirping, and a City of over 200,000 people is just 15 minutes away.

Yes there are hills in Sask!

Yes there are hills in Sask!

Beaver Creek! We saw lots of trees cut down by Beavers, and looked and looked and could not locate a Beaver. We did however inadvertently find many Ticks.

Sure is relaxing country out here. Listen to that: Nothing!

Shinji + Maureen!!
